How to Find Inspiration When Redesigning a Bathroom

Posted on

There is a reason why North Americans call the bathroom a 'restroom'. It may just be the most important room in your house, in fact, as it can be a haven after a hard day at work or a place to draw inspiration as you set out in the morning. Either way, if you have some money to spend on renovation, then you should earmark some of it for your bathroom to help make your quality of life that much better. However, you may not be sure where to start and are looking for inspiration.

Practical Bathtub

Think about the impact this type of renovation could make on the lives of those people in your household. Maybe you have elderly parents who are living in a granny flat and want to make life a bit more practical for them in the bathroom. They may find that the traditional bath is difficult to negotiate, especially as it can be a particularly slippery and challenging environment. Maybe it's time for you to remove the old bath and replace it with a walk-in tub instead?

These products have all the advantages of a traditional tub but have a hinged door at one end that is completely waterproof when closed. This design is much easier for elderly people, and you may also incorporate a built-in seat for extra effect.

Shower Extension

On the other hand, you may find that your bathroom is particularly crowded and that you don't have all that much room to work with. If you have both a bathtub and a shower enclosure, why not get rid of the tub and introduce a much larger walk-in shower with a swinging door and glass enclosure. You may even be able to make the shower big enough for two by installing a separate pair of taps.

Alternatively, you could get rid of an unwanted shower and allocate the entire space to a luxury bathtub with designer accoutrements.

General Makeover

If your budget is not as extensive, you can still spice up the design of your bathroom to make it a much nicer place to be. Think about replacing the trim throughout, introducing a new colour scheme, swapping out the hardware or introducing brand-new doors to your shower enclosure.
